Surah Lahab (سورة اللهب), also known as Surah Masad, is the 111th chapter of the Holy Quran. This short but powerful Makki Surah was revealed to condemn Abu Lahab, one of the fiercest enemies of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he!

مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُ وَمَا كَسَبَ

Transliteration:
Mā aghnā ‘anhu māluhu wa mā kasab

English Translation:
His wealth and his gains will not benefit him.

سَيَصْلَىٰ نَارًا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍ

Transliteration:
Sa-yaṣlā nāran dhāta lahab

English Translation:
He will be burned in a Fire of blazing flames!

وَٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلْحَطَبِ

Transliteration:
Wamra’atuhu ḥammālata al-ḥaṭab

English Translation:
And his wife, the carrier of firewood (slanderer).

فِى جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِّن مَّسَدٍۭ

Transliteration:
Fī jīdihā ḥablum min masad

English Translation:
Around her neck will be a rope of twisted fiber.
